KIT ▸ COMMON

Every kit, organized

Browse, search, rename, duplicate, or build from a template. Export a single kit — with the samples it uses — as a standalone folder for backup or sharing.

KIT ▸ PAD

Every parameter, one click away

Volume, pan, mute group, note, loop, trigger type, dynamics, poly/mono, output routing, per-pad MIDI channel. Copy, paste, exchange, or reset pads — or push one pad’s settings to the whole kit.

KIT ▸ FX

Real effects, real parameters

Enable and edit FX1 and FX2 across all 20 built-in effect types — Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Distortion, and more — with actual parameter names instead of raw numbers.

WAVE ▸ LIBRARY

Find any sample in seconds

Search and filter by category, preview playback, rename, batch-rename, duplicate, and import .wav files by dragging them straight from Finder.

WAVE ▸ CATEGORY

Tag it your way

Rename the 16 sample categories used by the hardware’s own browse screen, right from your Mac.

SYSTEM ▸ WORKFLOW

Built the Mac way

Full undo/redo, configurable autosave, a proper menu bar, and shortcuts for everything — ⌘S to save, ⌘Z to undo, ⌘1–⌘9 to jump between kits.

SYSTEM ▸ LICENSE

Free to try. $10 to keep.

Download the full app and explore every kit, pad, sample, and effect — no time limit, no feature gate. Buy a license only when you're ready to save your changes back to your SPD-SX.

  • Full editor, unlocked, from the first launch
  • One-time $10 payment — no subscription
  • License unlocks saving on this and future versions

SYSTEM ▸ FIRST LAUNCH

macOS will warn you once.

This build isn't signed with a paid Apple Developer certificate yet, so macOS shows a security warning the first time you open it. That's expected — here's how to get past it:

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag SPD-SX Editor into Applications.
  2. Double-click the app. macOS blocks it with a warning — click Done.
  3. Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security, scroll down to the message about the blocked app, and click Open Anyway.
  4. Confirm with your password or Touch ID, then open the app once more and click Open.

You only need to do this once — every launch after that works normally.

SYSTEM ▸ NOTICE

This app reads and writes the SPD-SX's own file format, which is not officially documented by Roland. Everything it knows about that format was reverse-engineered from real card data. Most fields were verified byte-for-byte; the kit effect parameter layout has only been directly confirmed for 2 of the 20 effect types.

This app is built and tested only for the original Roland SPD-SX. It does not support the SPD-SX PRO, which uses a different file format and effects engine. If you own an SPD-SX PRO, please use Roland's own official software instead.

Always back up your SD card before using this app. Copy the entire Roland/SPD-SX folder to your computer first. The app never touches your card until you explicitly click Save.
